North West Corfu is the furthest point of travel for visitors to the island, but it's still only about 35km from the airport.
If you have ever stayed in a North West Corfu resort on holiday, you will know that Corfu is really quite a small island and nothing is really far away. If, however, you have travelled to this region with one of the big tour operators you will also be aware that once you have arrived at the airport, and been shown to the coach that will eventually take you to your resort, you are also beginning a journey, depending on the time of your arrival, that could last up to 5 hours.
Consider this.
You have just spent perhaps an hour or two getting to your departure airport, then another three hours on the plane, and travelled a distance of around 1500 miles. So, why should it now take just as long to travel the last 35km to your destination?
The answer is affectionately called 'The Grand Tour'
To make more profit, the big tour companies like to pack as many people into their coach as possible, and drop them off at their accommodation in a wide sweep that will take them half way around the whole island, eventually finishing at Sidari. If you have booked for Arillas or San Stefanos, you may then be required to change to another coach or mini-bus for the final 6km to the resort. And, that's after you have arrived. At the end of your holiday you will be required to repeat the same journey but be picked up from your accommodation to ensure you reach the airport at least three hours before your flight is due to go. That could mean spending 7 or 8 hours between leaving your accommodation and your plane taking off. Add to this a further 3 hours flight time plus an hour getting home after clearing the baggage hall, and that equals and exhausting start to your holiday, accompanied by an even more exhausting end. The whole journey between North West Corfu and the airport should only take between 45 to 60 minutes.
So, at the start of your holiday you will lose 4 to 5 hours and at the end, around 6 to 8 hours. That's half a day just getting to and from the airport. A round-trip of just 70 kms

TEST RESULT
On September 17th, 2010, we tested our transfer method and to be as fair as possible we used public transport to the airport, and only counted the actual time spent on the move, not the bits waiting around in between. Our journey started from Hereford, and went like this.
We caught a train from Hereford to Bristol Temple Mead and then the airport bus to Bristol International Airport. Journey - 2 hours. We then took an EasyJet flight to Corfu that took 3 hours. At Corfu Airport we were met by our pre-arrange taxi that drove direct to our accommodation in Arillas in a journey time of 40 minutes.
Total travel time 5 hours 40 minutes.
