Of all the North West Corfu resorts Sidari is the undoubtedly the most developed. Sidari is a big, busy and vibrant place teaming with shops, restaurants and clubs and caters mostly for British visitors, who probably make up around 95% of tourists to this town.
Sidari appeals mainly to visitors who are looking for entertainment and nightlife, coupled to good food with a wide variety of choice. Although Sidari opened a branch of McDonalds in 2006, it is good to know that by 2008 it had closed down. A clear sign that even though the resort does cater mainly for the British, it caters for those Brits who choose not to take all their traditional eating habits on holiday.
The main high street is lined with tourist shops, clubs and restaurants, and some of these eating places are exceptional. Recently moved from the High Street to the beachfront, for instance, is Athena on the Beach, a restaurant specializing traditional Greek food, fish and meat. Athena serve probably the best fillet steaks in Corfu and the service, typical of most, is friendly and efficient. If Chinese food is your preferred option, the standards of the Hong Kong Palace, located on the High Street, compare well with any Chinese restaurant in Britain. This sort of diversity makes Sidari one of the unique places in all Corfu, primarily because the British influence has brought with it a culinary choice not available anywhere else on the island.
Sidari has two main beaches, the town beach and the famous Canal d'Amour, an enclosed sandstone cove that is located in the Melitsa area of the town. Further out of town and highly recommended for a visit is the sunset bar at Perulades. The Perulades Sunset Bar is the ultimate in ‘cool’ places to watch the spectacular sunsets in this part of the island. While the sun gently falls into the sea, the light sandstone cliffs cycle though a spectrum of colour reflecting the changing spectral vista, while the gentle background tones of ‘chill out music’ lull you into a pleasantly mellow mood and the warm breezes from the sea tickle your face as your sip you cocktail. Enough of the waxing lyrical though, back to the real world. You will need to hire a bike or some form of transport to get there, but a visit to this special place to enjoy the setting sun is well worth the effort or expense.
