The Climate of Corfu

Of all the Greek islands Corfu is the greenest and has the most trees. There is a very good reason for this, because Corfu probably has the highest rainfall.

Above, our chart shows clearly that most of the rain falls in the winter and spring months, leaving the summers hot and dry. The holiday season in Corfu traditionally runs from May 1st to the end of October.

Winter in Corfu is a mild season, typically with temperatures between 5-14°C, with the west coast enjoying a much milder climate than the east. Sunshine hours average between 4-5 hours per day.

Spring causes Corfu to burst into life with the days rapidly warming up. In spring you can expect temperatures around the 25°C mark accompanied by the occasional rain shower.

Summer is hot, sometimes very hot in Corfu. Typically daytime temperatures will average 30°C with peak temperatures being much higher. It is also wise to remember that these temperatures are measured in the shade. In the direct sunlight of a Corfu summer the temperature will be much higher.

Autumn brings a slight fall in temperature, averaging between 24-28°C, and during the autumn months, the summer sun having done its job, the sea is much warmer. September is one of the best times for a beach holiday, not simply because the sun is less vicious, but also because it is a good time to truly appreciate the warm waters of the Med.
