BOOK YOUR FLIGHT AND COLLECT YOUR HIRE CAR AT THE AIRPORT, OR HAVE IT DELIVERED TO YOUR ACCOMMODATION.
One of the best ways of seeing more of Corfu is to hire a car, bike or quad bike.
Despite being a small island Corfu can be quite an interesting place to drive, and journeys may take a lot longer than you may think. This is largely because the roads are very windy, and what may appear a short distance on the map may end up being quite a bit longer.
However, despite this, it's worth taking at least a couple days during your stay to try and see more of the island, and one of the favourite places that most people go is the island capital, Corfu Town.
It's only about 35km away but you need to allow between 40 minutes to an hour to get there from the North West, depending on the time of day you choose to travel.
Car hire is available in all the resorts we handle, with all offering at least 2 car rental businesses. You can also rent through one o f the big operators, like Avis or Budget, but we recommend that you use a local company. This is not because we have any criticism of the big companies, but we, as company principle, prefer to support the local economy and local businesses. Car hire rates start at around €25— €35 per day, and it is wise to consider paying a little extra to upgrade your insurance to include an excess waiver.
If you want to experience Corfu in all its raw glory, then we would suggest a bike (motor scooter) or a quad bike might be a better option to a car. Not only will you get to experience all the sights, but also the feel of the warm wind and sun on your face, and also the smells. All bikes are issued with crash helmets by law, but the nice part is that it remains optional to wear them.
You will need to show your current driving licence if you wish to hire a car or bike, and third-party insurance is included with all bike hire
contracts. Scooter hire starts at around €13 a day and goes up to €26 a day if you choose to go for a quad bike, so quads cost about the same as a very basic small car.
